Conventional Advertising: Radio, Television and print advertising doesn’t work anymore!

img_01351I know my account executive friends would disagree, but conventional marketing / advertising doesn’t work like it used to. The old days when you could place an ad on radio or television and expect a minimal return are long gone.  There are literally hundreds of channels that a consumer can now choose from. How can you target your demographic when they’re all over the place? And how many of you have an MP3 player on your phone? Well, that’s how many people are getting their entertainment these days. Why bother with commercial radio when I can set up Pandora and stream music through my iPhone? Or I can listen to my favorite Britney Spears album on my MP3 player in my car. Okay, I’m not a huge fan of Britney, but you get my point..

And someone asked about newspaper advertising. HELLO! Newspaper readership is dropping off like passengers off the Titanic.. Wow, did he go there? Yes, he did… :-)

Okay, door hanger / front door marketing! Leaving a message on your neighbor’s door has been a form of communication since your neighbor had a door to put something on. Listen, when I watch television, it’s pay-cable. When listening to music, it’s on an iPhone; read the news, it’s online, and have a special place for junk mail, the trash. You want to communicate with me, leave a message on my door. It’s the first thing I’ll see when I get back to the house.  I may not buy what you’re selling, but rest assured, I read your message.
